The Capim Branco Water Treatment Plant is designed to produce up to 2 m³/s, of drinking water and to serve more than half a million inhabitants.

Four 4 Four main plant sectors:

  • Water intake
  • Water pipeline
  • Water Treatment Plant (ETA)
  • Waterworks Sludge Treatment Facility (UTR)

Water intake

The banks of the Capim Branco reserve, has five main 2500hp motor-pump sets, which collect and pump raw water for more than 4.5 km at a height of more than 250 m until reaching the Water Treatment Plant and a Power Substation, of 20 Volt- ampere, which is responsible for supplying the entire system, including water intake and treatment, and waterworks sludge treatment facility.

Water pipeline

The water pipeline, composed of DN1100 and DN1200 still pipes, is divided into raw water, treated water (transported by pumping systems), and treated water ((transported by gravity systems),), which totals approximately 20 km in length, with a suspension of more than 390 m.
The water pipeline has, intern pression control mechanisms, such as hydro-pneumatic tank, pulsation dampener, junction station to allow transition from pressure flow to gravity flow (Repression x Severity), vacuum trucks, in addition to 126 m of Armco tunnels, under highway and railroad, by nondestructive testing methods (MND).

WATER TREATMENT PLANT (ETA)

The Capim Branco Water Treatment Plant, is a conventional type WTP, equipped with the processes of rapid mixing (parshall flume), flocculatio, decantation, filtration, chemical corrections, and reserve. More than 18,000 m³ of concrete , and 1,600,000 kg of steel were used to build the hydraulic and building structures.
of the water treatment plant, The whole process, from water intake to water treatment, is 100% automated and controlled by a central supervisory system, responsible for making all chemical corrections and dosages according to the raw water characteristics, as well as controlling the entire activation of equipment such as pumps, valves, locks, ensuring system harmony and treatment efficiency.

WATERWORKS SLUDGE TREATMENT FACILITY

Unlike other water treatment plants in the region, Capim Branco, allocates solids to a Waterworks Sludge Treatment Facility (UTR), close to ETA, where the sludge is treated, and the water is reused and retreated.
In order to implement the waste treatment plant, more than 2,000m³ of concrete and 200,000kg of steel were used to build the hydraulic and building structures.
The entire sludge treatment process is operated remotely through the central supervisory system, which is based at the Water Treatment Plant.
